8 TH GRADE CCR COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS CONFERENCE • The CCR is a process whereby students establish and review academic progress. We also review goals for college and career readiness. • MPJ Counselors meet with 7 th grade students in small group conferences. • Counselors meet yearly with 8 th and 9 th grade students and parent/guardians to plan and prepare for high school graduation, post high school education and future careers.

ADVISORY/PANTHER TIME • Monday – Advisory – Students report to their assigned Advisory class

ADVISORY/PANTHER TIME • Monday – Advisory – Students report to their assigned Advisory class for the last 30 minutes of the day. With a schoolwide focus on literacy, students will read for the first 15 minutes. For the remainder of the time, students will use a current Status Report and plan for their upcoming Panther Time days. • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday- Panther Time – Students visit any teacher to receive additional help, finish assignments, retake tests or participate in silent reading.

CITIZENSHIP MAKEUP If you receive a “U” in citizenship on your report card it

CITIZENSHIP MAKEUP If you receive a “U” in citizenship on your report card it must be made up. A requirement of 4 hours of service and a $5. 00 fee per “U” is required for all students. Please contact Mrs. Freckleton in the main office for more information.

MPJ HONORS PROGRAM • Mueller Park Junior High offers an outstanding honors program for students with exceptional ability, academic commitment and who desire a more challenging curriculum. • Participation in honors level classes at the junior high level can help students prepare for more rigorous high school courses. • Students enrolled in honors classes should have advanced reading and writing skills. The classes will move at a rapid pace.

Classes are accessed through a learning management system, Canvas. • There a wide variety of subjects offered. Courses are provided at little or no cost. FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS • Taking a foreign language is not a requirement to graduate from the Davis School District. • Foreign language is required to be admitted to some universities. • The University of Utah has a two year foreign language requirement. Level 1 and 2 language classes (consecutive) may be taken in grades 7 – 12. • Many schools outside of Utah require more than two years of a consecutive foreign language. • Plan ahead and don’t miss out on an out-of-state college opportunity because you did not meet their admissions requirements.

Students that graduate with an IB diploma earn college or university credit, are given top consideration for acceptance and scholarships in national and international colleges and universities, and gain an international perspective in their courses of study. DO YOU WANT TO GET INTO A TOP UNIVERSITY? • In 9 th grade start by taking a challenging course load. You will want to take 4 years of math, science, English, social studies, and in most cases 2 years of foreign language to be most competitive. • Honors classes in 9 th Grade are Honors English, Honors Secondary Math 11, and AP Human Geography. • Biology is not an honors course but a 10 th grade class. High schools recommend that students enrolled in Biology have successfully completed Honors Secondary Math 1.
