MSFD-Eutro and GES The objective of the MSFD is achievement of a GES in European waters by 2020. MSFD Descriptor 5 for GES states that humaninduced eutrophication is minimised, (especially adverse effects thereof, such as losses in biodiversity, ecosystem degradation, harmful algal blooms and oxygen deficiency in bottom waters. ) Differences also in surface concentrations can reflect local oceanographic conditions. Eutrophication assessments also involve winter nutrients levels. With optical remote sensing we cannot see nutrients that do not impact the water colour. Remote sening can provide optical and spatial information that can be used in the modelling. 10 maart 2021
