UNDERLYING MISSION To harvest energy from high altitude winds 100 m 250 m Concept of the Airborne Wind Turbine (AWT) was developed 100 m 250 m
EXISTING SYSTEMS These AWTs can take the form of a powered glider, or kite. Companies such as Makani , Ampyx Power, and Kite. Gen have all developed commercialized versions of these systems Also, Senior Design team P 14462 (our predecessor) attempted to develop a glider and successfully created a base station.
PROJECT BACKGROUND Also, Senior Design team P 14462 (our predecessor) attempted to develop a glider and successfully created a base station.
PROBLEM STATEMENT The goal of this project is to design, build, and reliably test a powered, human-controlled tethered glider specifically for use as an airborne wind energy system (or AWT) Tethered glider capable of continuous circular flight Integration with current base station 30 trials of 3 min continuous circular flight with tether tension and glider position recorded Functional simulation of flight path
