Start up procedure – Turn on using center button – Start up and self check takes about 20 sec – As always, start in fresh air environment – To turn off hold button down for 5 seconds • Please use the manual to familiarize yourself with the numbered items in the picture

Zeroing in fresh air • After startup, monitor will show FAS? – Push the power button when you see this, it will start a fresh air calibration • This is to account for occasional contamination of sensors while being stored
Resetting alarms • If activated, alarms require manual procedure to silence • Alarms will not silence when levels return to normal • Push up arrow to silence and reset
Down button functions • Down button scrolls through additional screens/options – Bump Test Screen • Do not attempt to perform a Bump Test • Hit the down arrow when you scroll to this screen • The unit will be calibrated quarterly by qualified personnel

Familiarization • Currently all SCFD #7 fire apparatus have an MSA Altair 4 x • B 71 and B 31 have an MSA Altair 4 x as well • Please take the time to familiarized your self with the MSA Altair 4 x • Air Monitoring techniques – Oxygen and LEL are percentage in air – CO and H 2 S are ppm – Monitor the space high, medium and low – Review procedures 3 -29 and 3 -31 for more air monitoring recommendations – Never attempt to monitor a known hazardous environment in training (ie, gasoline vapors, vehicle exhaust, etc. )
