Mrs. Tate: Room 18 4 th grade, Mrs. Salcido: Room 14 SDC Mrs. Bughman: Room 17 4 th Grade IB RESEARCH UNITS Beginning this month, we will finish our "Exploration“ unit from the transdisciplinary theme "Where We Are in Place and Time. " Our classes have learned about California's landforms and how both the Native People and European Explorers were influence by California’s landscape. Our next IB unit is titled “Relationship” from the “Sharing the Plant” transdisciplinary theme. During this unit we will be analyzing how plants, animals and humans relate to their environment. Calendar 10/2 - 10/6: Parent Conference Week (1: 00 dismissal all week) 10/9: No School (Teacher in-service) 10/31: Halloween trick-or-treating (1: 15 PM) Reading Counts By the end of the school year, 4 th graders must have a lexile level of 595 or higher. Please make sure your 4 th grader is earning 4 points a week or more. Points are obtained by reading books and passing Reading Counts quizzes. Part of your child’s homework is to read for 30 minutes each night. This will greatly improve his or her reading comprehension. Mathematics We have finished two Swun Math units. Now during the month of October we will be studying division. Your child will be successful in math when he or she knows the multiplication and division facts. Please have him or her practice the facts nightly for 15 minutes. Your child should be able to pass a 70 problem fact test in 3. 5 minutes. Students can also practice their facts online at Swun. Math. com. Finally, please encourage your child to work on ST Math (at web. stmath. com/entrance/go/MA X 70 T) while at home. This is a great way to apply math skills he or she is taught during the school day. Book Orders October book orders are due 1 week after they are received.
