Theme: Dragons Love Tacos I absolutely LOVE the children’s book Dragons Love Tacos. This

Theme: Dragons Love Tacos I absolutely LOVE the children’s book Dragons Love Tacos. This classroom is based on this story. I plan to read this book the first day of class and again at the open house so parents and students both understand appreciate theme. The next two slides are bulletin boards for displaying work and recognizing students.

Rewards/Incentive System Individual: Students can earn “punches” (each punch representing a taco (or I could put a taco sticker or stamp on each such as the one below) for instances of good behavior. One students complete a card or have a “boatload of tacos” (as mentioned in the book- the appropriate amount of tacos for a dragon taco party), they can redeem their card for prizes, or save multiple cards for a bigger prize.

Rewards/Incentive System Groups: Each group will be a different dragon from Dragons Love Tacos (their dragon will hang from the ceiling above their group’s desks, and they can name their dragon). Each of the dragons/groups can earn (or lose) points throughout the week for good behavior (tracked on the white board). At the end of the week, the group with the highest amount of points gets a prize.

Rewards/Incentive System Whole Class: Each week I will write a whole class reward on the board, such as a root beer float party, pajama day, or a taco party, and cover it with a bunch of sticky notes. Then, whenever I notice students behaving particularly well or being on task, I will remove one sticky note, getting them one step closer to knowing what the reward is. When all the sticky notes are gone, the class has earned the reward for Friday. FRIDAY REWARD:

Discipline I plan to hang the poster to the right in my classroom. The first violation of rules will be a warning (Mild Salsa), the second is another warning and revoked privileges which will be student and class-situation specific (Medium Salsa), and the third warning is a call home (Spicy Salsa). Non-punitive time-outs will be given as needed to help students calm down, but not included in the structured consequences to retain their nonpunitive status.
