Tuesday: Fine Arts Wednesday: Library Thursday: Gym Friday: Gym Learning Focus Math: this week we practiced understanding place value by decomposing numbers. Every digit in a number has a place value we can break it up by tens and ones. Students had to break down a two digit number into their sub-parts. Decomposing numbers helps us to understand the difference between "tens" and "ones“ and how any number between 1 -10 can be formed by using a variety of addends. An example of this is if we had the number 32. They would break it down by saying that there are 3 tens and 2 ones or 30 + 2. By doing this it helps the students to understand the meaning of a number. There is value in students being able to see how to group numbers and to see the relationships and patterns in the numbers. As the math problems start to get harder the students will be able to decompose the numbers so they can solve higher level math problems. An example of this is adding 50+15 which we could change to 60+5 or 50+10+3+2. In Science, we used our magnifying glasses to help us to identify parts of vegetables and fruits.
