Land Water Biomes Quality Work Exemplar
Intended Learning: Students will learn about and become familiar with the land water biomes of the earth and their characteristics.
Materials needed: • Nine large pieces of paper, such as bulletin board background paper • Tempra paint or other media with which to paint or color the mural. • Different sizes of paint brushes.
The Learning Experience: 1. Divide the class up into nine groups. 2. Assign a biome to each group.
3. Have each group research their assigned biome, learning about its plant life, animal life, climate and location on the earth. Mrs. Kendrick, librarian, starts the students on their research.
Students research their biomes in the nature book area. Students work together on their rainforest biome.
4. Have each group plan, draw and paint a mural of their assigned biome including the plant and animal life present in that biome. Students paint the water on their mural.

5. Have each group plan and give an oral presentation to the rest of the class on their assigned biome. Each presentation should include the following information: the biome’s location in the world, the climate, plant and animal life.
