Mrs Harmas Weekly News Week of November 3
Mrs. Harmas’ Weekly News Week of November 3 What we are learning! Literacy: We worked on predicting, making connections, and asking questions before, during, and after reading! Math: We discussed probability by drawing items out of a bag, spinning a probability wheel, and dropping sticks with different colors! We also practiced recognizing and sequencing numbers 1 -20. We learned the terms: certain, impossible, or “might happen” this week. Lastly, we reviewed the pan balance and used everyday objects to compare weights! Writing: This week we reviewed spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning of sentences, and ending marks at the end of a sentence. We discussed the three different marks and their uses: period, question mark, and exclamation points! Not only did we have our PBIS celebration where we had the opportunity to see BLUE from the Colts, but we celebrated our Fall Party with games, snacks, and crafts. We learned all about Pumpkins and went to Russell Farms! This week we participated in Project Lead the Way. This program helps engage students with hands-on experiences through the design process. We learned about what an engineer, structure, and function is through building a: beanstalk, house, and paintbrush. Our class learned about collaborating with others and using science and technology to develop their creations! Important Information: • • It is VERY important that you practice the skills your child is working on at home, including: • Reading and asking questions • Sight words (reading, writing, and spelling) • Letters (their sounds, how to write them, what they look like) • Counting (by 1’s and 10’s) • Following directions, listening to others, and sharing a thought or comment in a complete sentence • Writing a story with a beginning, middle, and end that makes sense Please talk with your child about their behavior daily. Our goal is YELLOW! Our classroom does a daily R. O. C. K ticket drawing (children earn tickets for making good choices) in which the winner chooses a prize from the classroom treasure chest! The more tickets, the better the chance!
