My Beliefs as a Teacher My instructional day revolves around the belief that all children can and will learn! The big difference in fourth grade is that students are not learning how to read, but reading to learn information.
Communication • Red Folder – Homework given out Monday – Thursday (5 minutes off recess for each missing assignment) – Check for notes and changes in schedule • Planner – – Assignment Notebooks are filled out in class for Homework Reading Log and colors should be recorded each night Check for red Missing Homework stamp Parent/Guardian’s Signature: Please review and check that all work is completed before signing each night • Teacher Website • Email: ccaggiano@bridgeportedu. net • Power School – Power School is an online grading program. Art • Mrs. Polizzo • Students will explore the elements and principles of art using a variety of media • Students will study art history and art vocabulary • Most students have art once a week • 6 th grade has art twice a week • Grade is based on effort, following directions, behavior and creativity
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Mr. Tvardzik Mr. Bonaventura Mr. Whalen Through the traditional Physical Education curriculum, along with the Adventure-Based Learning curriculum, and swimming, the goal of the Physical Education Department is to promote a fun and safe learning environment that will enhance students' fitness levels and promote a physically active and healthy lifestyle that will lead to lifelong fitness and health. Information • Students must come prepared to class with appropriate footwear (sneakers). If your child is in 7 th or 8 th grade they must come to class with a change of clothes (sneakers, shorts/sweatpants, and a t-shirt. Uniform colors are acceptable) • 7 th and 8 th students are encouraged to bring a lock to secure all their belongings so nothing goes missing in the locker rooms. • If a student is unable to participate in PE, we must receive a written note from the parent or a doctor so he/she can be excused. One copy should be given to the PE teacher and another copy should be on file with the school nurse • More information to follow regarding swimming
Miss Melendez (LLC) Language, literacy and culture Grade K-4 Support for individual, small group and whole class literacy instruction.
Objective: Preparing students to master Common Core Literacy Standards and close the achievement gap for struggling readers and writers. Students will be exposed to texts of different cultures to give them a background to be better readers in all content areas.
