Lesson One Grade: 11 Content Area: U. S. history Student Work: Students will be placed into groups to compose an e-mail response to a letter written by a soldier fighting in France in WWI. Students will write to the soldier, Bertie, and advise him of what has changed on the American "home front" in the 95 years since his letter was written. Method: Students will use the Internet to locate information that they would like to use in their groups response to Bertie. Students can use a variety of sources from the Internet, but , students using Internet sources will have to evaluate sites as if they were a text they were using in class. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source for this exercise, and students will be required to show their understanding of evaluating web sources by completing the "five criteria handout".

Lesson Two Grade: 11 Content Area: U. S. history Student Work: Students will be placed in groups to design there own war poster using information and photos found through the Internet in class. Method: Students will have to locate relevant sources from the Internet to successfully create a war poster. The students can find a vast amount of examples of posters under Google images. Students must ensure that they use relevant material, otherwise their posters may not reflect adequate "propaganda". Wikipedia is not an acceptable source for this exercise, and students will be required to show their understanding of evaluating web sources by completing the "five criteria handout".

Lesson Three Grade: 11 Content Area: U. S. history Student Work: Students will be grouped to produce an early 20 th century newspaper cover page announcing that the Great War was over. Method: Students must navigate appropriate web-based material in order to review historical newspapers to create one as a group. There must be additional information on the cover page to accompany the main objective. For example, student work could include local political election results, weather, or other local concerns. However, they must be researched and accurate showing relevant Internet sources. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source for this exercise and students will be required to show their understanding of evaluating web sources by completing the "five criteria handout".
