Healthy Diet A healthy diet is a well balanced diet. Consume foods from all food groups Five main food groups Choose foods and beverage with less fat. Everything you eat and drink DOES matter!!! Focus on variety, amount and most of all nutrition.
Healthy Diet Cont’d Keep an eye on portion sizes- always check serving sizes on food label. Eat plenty of produce and whole grains- Aim for 2 ½ cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit a day for a 2. 000 calorie diet. At least half of your grains should be whole grains. Look for product that is “ 100% whole wheat. ” Eat more fish and nuts. - Nuts, fatty fish, avocados, etc. Choose food OVER supplements and LIMIT alcohol!!! http: //
How Do We Stay Healthy? Key Tips Exercise regularly: 3 -4 times per week for 60 minutes (minimum!!!!. ) Don’t Smoke. Eat a healthy diet. Maintain a healthy weight. Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all… Shoot for 7 -8 hours of sleep each night.
What Should You Be Eating? 80 -90% of your daily macronutrients should come from whole foods. Aim for red meat once a week. Focus on complex carbohydrates: Whole wheat or whole grain products. Fiber intake should be between 25 -40 grams daily with cholesterol at 300 grams. Water intake should be 8 (8 oz) glasses a day or one gallon.
Healthier Eating (Key Tips) Eat SLOW: Slow down when eating as it takes the brain 20 minutes to register that you are full. Eat smaller meals more often (every 3 -4) hours with snacks in between. Indulge here and there but don’t go overboard!!! Never reward yourself with food. Reaching your goal is your reward.

Take Away Consume adequate amounts of macro and micro nutrients. (Given age, weight, height, goals, exercise level, etc. ) Eat smaller portioned meals over time with snacks in between. Exercise regularly 3 -4 times a week for at least 60 minutes. Know your limits and never be afraid to ask for help. Don’t forget a cheat meal/day is OK. Have variety and make food fun, don’t allow it to consume you.
