Mr. Harper’s science mini lesson with audio The Excretory System How your kidneys clean your blood
Our bodies are made up of many different types of living cells. cellular waste
There are many billions of cells in our bodies. One cell is too small to see without a microscope. cellular waste
Like all living things, our cells make waste (go to the toilet). cellular waste
Cells must get rid of their waste or they will die. Cells get rid of their waste by dumping it into the blood. Every cell lives next to a tiny blood vessel (capillary). capillary lothe Blood. Bin odfcapillary low in capilla ry Cellular waste cell cell
Blood carries the waste away to the kidneys where the blood is filtered and cleaned. kidneys
The kidneys remove the cellular waste from your blood.
Blood flows through the kidneys where the waste is filtered out. Urine flows to the bladder
The cellular waste products are sent from the kidneys as urine (a yellow liquid) in tubes called jjjjjjureters, or urine tubes.
The ureters take urine to a bag-like muscle called the bladder where it is stored until we go to the bathroom.
Every fifth grader should know that the kidneys clean the blood (remove the cellular waste).
Every fifth grader should know that the bladder stores urine until we let it out in the toilet.
Every fifth grader should know the kidneys are the main organs in the excretory system, which is sometimes called the urinary system. excretory system
The excretory system removes cellular waste from the body. It’s often called the urinary system because urine is how the waste leaves the body.
Now let’s see how much of the information you remembered.
Let’s review: What are the most important organs in the excretory system?
Let’s review: The kidneys are the most important organs in the excretory system.
Let’s review: What is the function (job) of the kidneys?
Let’s review: Kidneys remove cellular waste from the blood (clean the blood).
Let’s review: What happens to the waste after the kidneys remove it from the blood?
Let’s review: Cellular waste goes as urine to the bladder then into the toilet.
