Classroom procedures
Entering the room Good morning, good morning! Enter the room quietly with walking feet. Take out your journals and place them on the round table in a stack. Take out any homework you will need to turn in today. Homework should be turned in to the black bin~ on Mr. Basanez’s desk. Any notes or letters can go in Mr. Basanez's mailbox. Do not put homework in the mailbox! If you are eating breakfast, the teacher’s assistants will pass it out so wait patiently! You have until announcements start to finish your breakfast. While your eating, Begin problem of the day! When you’re finished, have a tablemate check your work, then begin working on flash cards in the middle of your table. You can also read a book if you have one at your desk. You should not be talking during this time~! If you need to sharpen a pencil, the morning is the perfect time to do so! You may not sharpen pencils while I am teaching!
Morning announcements etiquette Stand for the pledge of allegiance to the U. s. flag and the state of Texas flag. Remain standing for silent reflection. No talking. if you need to speak with me, come speak with me privately after the silent reflection.
Restroom breaks We will take two restroom breaks as a class throughout the day, like when we switch classes, But if you need to go while we’re in class, please go. If you need to go on your own, you should hold up 2 fingers and cross them, like you are crossing your legs when you have to use the bathroom! When I see you and give you permission, you will Find the “boy’s” or “girl’s” bottle of hand sanitizer on the aqua book shelf next to the door. Then get the “boy’s” sanitizer bottle if you’re a boy, and the “girl’s” sanitizer bottle if you’re a girl, and take it with you. This is your restroom pass! PLEASE be sure to bring it back with you!!! *other hand symbols!
Hallway behavior We always travel through the halls in a line, one person in front of the other, hands and feet to ourselves, closed mouths, quiet bodies. We do not touch the walls or any of the displays or student work the teachers have put up or out. There is no talking in the hallway! Ever! Also. . . Prior to entering the hallway as a class, the teacher’s helper will draw a number from my cup for a “secret walker”. I will keep an eye on the whole class, especially the “secret walker”, as we travel through the halls. If the “secret walker” is showing me correct hallway behavior, he or she will earn DOJO points! If not, I could take some away!
jobs You will be given a new job each month. You are responsible for doing this job every day! I will talk to you more about each job now…. . Jobs are located by Mr. Basanez's desk.
Clean up procedures Any time we are rotating to a new station, cleaning up, or transitioning, I will play a song (we will pick one as a class) to signal you that it is time! Other signals: -One two three, eyes on me! One two, eyes on you! -Echoing claps -if you can hear me clap once… -hocus pocus, everybody focus -can I get a… whoop! & we will add more as the year goes on!
End of the day We now have specials at the very end of the day, so we will pack up and take our backpacks with us to specials. Before we leave the room, we must: -make sure that the chairs are stacked -all papers are off the tables -stations are cleaned up -computers are turned off -no trash is on the floor -table tubs are clean Mr. Basanez’s pet peeve is when the room is dirty or the chairs are not stacked, so I could give dojo points for a clean room some days!

Also, bring an excuse and turn it in to the mailbox on my desk when you come back. Otherwise, ms. Vasquez will count it as unexcused.
