MPLS MIB Review Summary Applicability to GMPLS MIBs
MPLS MIB Review Summary (Applicability to GMPLS MIBs) Tom Nadeau (tnadeau@cisco. com) Adrian Farrel (afarrel@movaz. com) Apologies for not using open source software.
Agenda from MPLS Meeting • Review of Final Changes for MPLS MIBs requested by MIB Doctors • Review Interaction between MIBs: • MPLS-TC, MPLS-LSR, MPLS-LDP, MPLSTE, MPLS-FTN, TE-TE, LINK-BUNDLING • MPLS MIB Overview draft • GMPLS interaction/support. • FINAL ACTION Items for Authors Apologies for not using open source software.
MPLS MIB Changes • Complete Detail of Changes at IETF ID Tracker Site • https: //datatracker. ietf. org/public/pidtracker. cgi • Many Minor Changes to base MPLS MIBs • DESCRIPTION Clauses • Clarification of Examples • Editorial in Nature (split REFS, IPR statement) • Very Few Significant Changes to base MPLS MIBs. • Determined to work fine with GMPLS MIBs. Apologies for not using open source software.
Purpose/Current Status • Purpose to handle all GMPLS function in base GMPLS drafts • Initially conceived as extensions/augmentations • This was getting messy so we went for “v 2” MIBs • For a long while we had four documents – – GMPLS TC GMPLS LSR GMPLS TE GMPLS Label • Recently revised our approach to use extensions • Blocked for a long time by progress on MPLS MIBs, but will move forward as soon as MPLS MIBs are updated and moved to IESG for approval (very soon). Apologies for not using open source software.
Current drafts • GMPLS TC MIB • GMPLS TE MIB • GMPLS LSR MIB Apologies for not using open source software.
Biggest Issue: How do we represent labels? • GMPLS labels may be G. T. 32 bits • GMPLS labels may be concatenated • It is desirable to expose the contents of the label (e. g. SONET/SDH label fields) • Proposal was that the other MIB tables (e. g. LSR) reference labels through a type identifier and an index/label – If type is one, label is in place (note: zero better for b/w compatibility) – Otherwise, index points into Label Table Apologies for not using open source software.
New Proposed Approach from MIB Meeting • Add type field {packet/non-packet} + Octet. String Index into label table wherever labels are referenced. • Allows current MPLS labels to be represented in-line in Octet. String index • GMPLS “long” labels can be found in a table of Octet Strings that facilitate their potentially long size. Apologies for not using open source software.
Other Issues and Actions • Enums that match protocol fields will be managed by IANA. • There should not be media-specific tables for now. • Need extensions for Sonet/SDH Sender Tspec • Other GMPLS features: Notify recipients, administrative statuses control (NOT MIB row Admin. Status!), Hello restart options, interface Id HOP/Error. Spec • Editorial/compilation/etc. Apologies for not using open source software.
Summary/Action Items • Goal is to update MPLS MIBs by 12/15 based on review Comments on latest MIBs. Resolution of any issues on email list • Additional MPLS Working Group “LAST, LAST Call” at that time • GMPLS MIBs updated thereafter, and certainly by March IETF meeting. • Produce on GMPLS Management Overview document for March IETF meeting (have been waiting for MPLS MIBs to be sorted out). Apologies for not using open source software.
