Activity 1. Traveling Around the World (Choose a small toy to represent Mr. Traveler. Place Mr. Traveler on each continent and pole on a globe as you sing this song. )

Activity 2. Discovering North, South, East, and West � Today we’re going to talk about direction on a globe and a map. Directions mean which way you move. � (Have students name continents. Move Mr. Traveler to the continent describing which direction he is moving. Ex. Mr. Traveler is walking toward the North Pole. He is walking North. )

Activity 3. Moving on a Map � On a map you will find a compass rose. As long as you know which way is North you can find the other directions as well, west, east, and south. Do you see the compass rose on this map?

Here is a compass rose. Write the letter S for South on your rose on pg. 11. Write the letter W for West. Write the letter E for East. Check to make sure you have the letters in the right spots by looking up here.
