Movement Skill Analysis of Punting By Cody Hawk & Jacob Gieselman 12/6/13

Skill Objective To explain the biomechanical principles of a punt such as coefficient of restitution, angular velocity, and projectile motion.

Special Considerations of Punting Atmospheric Conditions Barometric Pressure Wind Speed Ball Size (coefficient of restitution)

Phases of Punting 1. The approach and catch 2. Backswing of kicking leg& the drop 3. The contact of ball and foot 4. The follow through

The Approach and Catch 1. Distance 2. Stance 3. Catching the ball 4. Holding the ball

Backswing of Kicking Leg & The Drop 1. Two steps 2. Planting the non-kicking foot 3. Flexing his kicking leg (Potential energy) 4. Correct arm motion 5. Drop the ball in front of planted foot

Contact of Ball and Foot 1. Head up and over support foot 2. Ball flat against foot 3. Kicking foot should demonstrate dorsiflexion

Follow Through 1. Carrying momentum through the football 2. Adding a hop after following through
