WHAT IS A MOUNTAIN v A mountain is a huge landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill. Mountains are created through tectonic forces or volcanism. These forces can raise the surface of the earth. Mountains erode slow through the forces of rivers, weather conditions, and glaciers. A couple of mountains are isolated summits, but most occur in large mountain ranges.
MOUNT EVEREST v Mount Everest is earth’s highest mountain, the elevation is 29, 029. v The first accent was May 29, 1953 by Tenzing Norgay, and Edmund Hillary. v Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. v Over 200 people have died trying to climb Mount Everest.
K 2 MOUNTAIN IN ASIA v It is the second highest mountain in the world, at an elevation of 28, 251. v Also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mount Godwin-Austen. v The first assent was in July of 1954 by Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. v 1 in every 4 people that attempt to climb this mountain die trying.
MOUNT MCKINLEY v It is the highest mountain peak in North America, at an elevation of 20, 322. v The first accent was June 7, 1913 by Harry Karstens, Robert Tatum, Walter Harper, Hudson Stuck. v Around 120 people have perished on Mount Mc. Kinley.
