THE DR. FARMER’S WAY OF TREATING/HEALING PEOPLE � “Here’s a good deed in progress and a perfect example of the Farmer method. First you perform what he calls the “distal intervention” and cure the family of TB. Then you start challenging the conditions that made them especially vulnerable to the TB in the first place. ” � Basic necessities � Curable things
MORE THAN MEDICINE � “And yet, when the results came in the cure rates for the two groups was dramatically different. Of the patients who had received free medicine, a mere 48% were cured. By contrast, everyone in the group that received the cash stipends and other services made a full recovery. ” � 78% of Haitians are poor (less than US$2 a day), and more than half (54%) live in extreme poverty (less than US$1 a day). � Transportation & technology
