MOUNTAINEERING ANASTASIA BONDAR
Mountaineering MOUNTAINEERING, also called mountain climbing, is the sport of attaining, or attempting to attain, high points in mountainous regions, mainly for the pleasure of the climb. Although the term is often loosely applied to walking up low mountains that offer only moderate difficulties, it is more properly restricted to climbing in areas, where the terrain and weather conditions present such hazards that, for safety, a certain amount of previous experience will be found necessary. For the untrained, mountaineering is a dangerous pastime. mounteneering - альпінізм to attain - досягати, добиратись high points - високі точки, вершини mountainous regions - гірські місцевості moderate difficulties - помірні складності a terrain - місцевість untrained - непідготовлений a dangerous pastime - небезпечне заняття 2

The most famous mountaineer Reinhold Andreas Messner is an Italian mountaineer, explorer, and author. He made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest and the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen. He was the first climber to ascend all fourteen peaks over 8, 000 metres above sea level. Messner was the first to cross Antarctica and Greenland with neither snowmobiles nor dog sleds. He also crossed the Gobi Desert alone. Messner has published more than 80 books (only a quarter of which have been translated into English) about his experiences as a climber and explorer.
