Buddhism • A Buddhist church is called a temple. • Developed in India, 2500 years ago by a man named Siddattha Gotama. • Today 365 million (6%) of world population follow Buddhism. • One fundamental belief of Buddhism is often referred to as reincarnation. • “Buddha” means the enlightened one. • If you reach the enlightened state you attain Nirvana.
Samurai- a class of Japanese warriors similar to the knights of Europe • Samurai practiced Bushido which was influenced by Zen Buddhism • Samurai do NOT fear danger because they do not fear death (because they believe in reincarnation) • They are loyal to the Emperor, feudal landlords and higher ranking Samurai. • Dishonesty, cheating and deceit are looked down upon. • They showed no outward signs of pain and anguish.
