Example: This image in the ‘Moulin Rouge’ conveys the idea of what kind of place and what kinds of people there are in the Moulin Rouge , Paris. This was conveyed through the costume designing of the characters and the high key lighting of the scene. The costuming displayed the audience to think that it is a place for men and women to create a “relationship”, showing that they are less naïve to bigger experiences. The high key lighting made the scene look more cheerful, filled with excitement. The lighting enhanced the club with music and dance creating a glamorous atmosphere. These distinctively visual techniques developed more of an idea of what Moulin Rouge is made of.

The high angle of the camera is showing Christian holding on to Satine deteriorating , while looking up at the sky begging for her not to be gone like this. Red and white rose petals surround them symbolising their love, the redness of Satine’s experienced life and the white of Christians pureness colliding together. The low key lighting creates the dark atmosphere of Satine’s death, conveying the motif of her slowly dying throughout the film.
