MOTION Presentation by Mrs. Pooja Dani For VI Std. Subject: Science
MOTION • What is motion ? • What are the different types of motion? • ok! we have answers to all these questions.
EXAMPLES 1. When an athelete is running on the ground then he is continuously changing his position with respect to the audience who are sitting at rest.
EXAMPLES 2. The earth is continuously changing position with respect to sun which is at rest.
what is motion? when a body is continuously changing its position with respect to the surroundings , then we say that the body is in motion.
What are the different types of motion? Linear motion : Motion in only one direction is called linear motion. Example: train is running on the railway track it is said to be a linear motion or rectilinear motion.
Types of Linear Motion Uniform Linear Motion : Motion in which a specific distance is being covered in a particular period is called uniform motion. Non-Uniform Linear Motion : Motion in which a no specific distance is covered in a given period of time is called non-uniform motion. Example: Soldiers marching in a parade. Example: A girl on a slide
What are the different types of motion? Curvilinear motion: when a body moves along a curved path then the linear motion is called curvilinear motion. eg. , a planet revolving around its parent star
What are the different types of motion? Oscillatory motion : A body is said to be in oscillatory motion when it swings to and fro about a mean position. example : the pendulum of a clock, the swing.
What are the different types of motion? Periodic Motion: When a moving object passes through a certain point at regular intervals of time, its motion is called periodic motion.
What are the different types of motion? Random Motion: Motion whose direction changes continuously is called random motion.
What are the different types of motion? Circular motion : A body is said to be in rotatory motion when it stays at one place and turns round and round about an axis. example : a rotating fan, a spinning top, the earth.
What are the different types of motion? Example of Circular motion
What are the different types of motion? Example of Circular motion
SPEED Time taken by an object to cover the distance between two points is the speed of that object. That means, speed of an object is the distance it travels in a unit of time. Speed = distance travelled/time taken to travel the distance Unit of speed in MKS system is m/sec. Unit of speed in CGS system is cm/sec.
QUIZ 1. Which type of motion do we observe when we are watching a game of football? A. Periodic Motion B. Random Motion 2. The movement of Bird’s wings is an example of oscillatory motion. A. True B. False 3. The motion of the moon moving around the earth is ____ A. Random Motion B. Curvillinear Motion 4. The unit of speed in MKS system is ____ A. m/sec B. Cm/sec 4. The motion of a body which completes one round in the same time, every time _______ A. Circular Motion B. Periodic Motion
