Mother/Daughter Conflict “Her mother, who always noticed everything and knew everything and who hadn’t much reason any longer to look at her own face, always scolded Connie about it…Stop gawking at yourself. Who are you? You think your so pretty? She would say’’ Connie’s mother, because jealous of Connie and her looks, always noticed when Connie was admiring herself to much and because she didn’t like the fact that she didn’t like how she became to look and stop looking at her face she thought Connie should as well. Connie’s mother would always have something to say when she say Connie looking at herself.
Parents ‘’ …Connie’s mother kept picking at her until Connie wished she was dead and she herself was dead and it was over…Their father was away at work most of the time, and when he came home he wanted supper , and read the newspaper at supper and after supper he went to bed” Connie’s father seems to never have time for Connie or the rest of the family and when he does he just eats, sleeps, and wakes back up in the morning to go to work, as if his family doesn't’t exist at all. Connie’s mother on the other hand is simply just jealous of Connie’s beauty. She realizes hers is diminishing and she is getting older so when she looks at Connie who is young and beautiful she remembers how she once was young and beautiful. Both these parents don’t seem to ever show any love or care for Connie in the reading.
Sibling rivalry “She was so plain and chunky, and steady that Connie had to hear her praised all the time by her mother and her mother’s sisters June did this, June did that, she saved money and helped clean the house and cooked and Connie couldn’t do a thing, her mind was all filled with trashy daydreams’’ Connie was beautiful! Her mother jealous of her looks praised Connie’s sister instead of her because
