On most days they will have a book in their purple folders to read, but even if they don’t, they need to practice what they have worked on at school that day. So make sure to set aside reading time daily for your child. Research shows that the more a first grader reads, the better reader they will become, and the better their chances are at success later in school. And don’t forget that they need to hear good, fluent reading modeled by you too! So get a good chapter book and read together!
