Clauses Clause a group of words with a subject and a predicate. Independent Clause subject + predicate. Functions as a COMPLETE SENTENCE. Dependent Clause subject + predicate. DOES NOT function as a complete sentence. Often marked by a dependent marker word like: when, after, although, as if, because, before, even if, even though, if, in order to, since, though, unless, until, whatever, whenever, whether, and while.
