MORE LIFE RADIO BY ALIA HAMID
CONCEPT AND PURPOSE This will be a Radio Show based around the modern generation including modern and current music playing various different genres such as Rn. B, Hip Hop, Rap, Reggae and Old-School. In addition to this, I will also be including the latest news in Manchester but also around the world, from topics such as, celebrities, TV programs, different events, nightlife and fashion. The reason I am doing a Radio Show is because it is something that I am passionate about and want to pursue a career in in the future. As well as this, I feel that this will show off my creativity in a new light as I have never done a radio show before so this is also something different. Demonstrating my skills as well as showing my personality through presenting my own Radio Show will gain me confidence and ability to do this project well and successfully.
TARGET AUDIENCE My Target Audience will be between the ages of 11 -35 years of age and mainly sits with the working class and lower class sector however I will be trying to create content that everyone enjoys and not aim it to a certain group or class. The reason for it being around the ages of 1135 is because I want to create content that is modern and in the 21 st centaury. More over, I want the audience to be able to connect with the different topics and music presented and feel connected with the presenter(me).
LOCATION I will be airing my radio show in The Manchester College using the colleges radio facilities. As I am filming the show. I want the set up to look professional as it would look in a specialist Radio Show. I want to base the radio show in Manchester as that is where I am from and this allows me to portray facts about Manchester and what is going on in the city that I and the listeners live.
WHY HAVE I CHOSEN THIS IDEA? I have chosen to do this idea because I feel that I can show my creativity well and also it will capture the audiences attention as radio has become very popular in today’s society. As well as this, music is a big passion of mine and radio gives me the opportunity to showcase the skills but also my passion and hopefully that will come across in the final production. I will be having special guests on my show, interviewing them and asking their opinion on topics that i have talked about in the show. The will aslo be a live performance from a particular artist and discussions about fashion and social media. More over, because I have grew up in this generation I feel that I can connect with the audience well as I am roughly the same age as my target audience and I know what is on trend.
KEY INFLUENCES A major influence that has inspired me to do a radio piece is a Radio and TV presenter called Maya Jama connects very well with her audience and is very confident in what she does. On air, she plays the recent and most popular music that everyone is listening to right now. As well as this, she knows how to deliver a great show by being chatty and charismatic but also professional and skillful at the same time. Maya presents a drive-time show from 4 pm-7 pm on Wednesdays for a radio station called Rinse FM. Their target audience is mainly teenagers and young modern adults.
CHALLENGES (LEGAL AND ETHICAL) • The challenges I could come across whilst presenting my radio show could be not knowing my script. If I am live on a radio show and I don’t know briefly know what I will be saying then I could forget and mess up live when your audience is listening and this could be embarrassing. To overcome this problem, I could improvise to hide the error I have done. • In addition to this, I could also face On-com challenges such as balancing the duration of music to how long I talk. For example, I could play 4 tracks and then speak for 2 minutes then play another 5 songs and speak for 15 minutes. I need to be able to balance so that the audience keeps interest. • More over, I need to know how long I am playing each song for(duration) and also knowing when to mute the song when you are ready to speak. • As well as the above, I need to know how to work the equipment thoroughly so I can present a professional and skillful radio show. • Creating my own jingle that is catchy and intriguing to my target audience. • I need to make sure that each song I play has sensed out foul or offensive language and also that each song does not portray signs of racism or stereotypical words or phrases.
