Film Information Moonlight began production in 2015 and finished along with being released in 2016 It was directed and co-written by Barry Jenkins (along side Terrell Alvin Mc. Carney who was the other co-writer) who had only 1 prior film to his name called Medicine for Melancholy which was decently well received then 8 years later he directed Moonlight which was based on the book in Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue wrote by Terrell the aforementioned co-writer there are many cultural references to the hoods of the US

WHO AM I?

Situation on conflict/gang/ first love The situation of conflict is Chiron trying to survive and figure out his life in the drug addled streets of Miami Gang Chiron's gang is his best friend Kevin who is the only one he is truly close with In the film apart from his father figure Juan First love Chiron's first love is also Kevin and there love develops throughout the film

Keeping it Real Keeping it real in a coming of age film is largely dependent on who you cast to be the main character there is 2 ways to go about this you can go the harry potter and boyhood route where you have the same actor throughout and they literally grow up or you can do what moonlight did where you hire multiple actors for the role this reduces the risk of an actor not acting well in a certain time period of the film since you spread the responsibility over 3 actors (Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhrodes Respectfully)

Loss of innocence In moonlight Chiron's Innocence is lost pretty much immediately due to the fact that he lives in a poor area where drug use runs rampant so he isn’t really able to have an innocent child hood considered how kids call him a “faggot” and bully him and his mother is a drug user

The Grown Ups The grown ups in this film are Juan the regretful drug dealer who becomes his father figure His mother who he rebels against And Teresa who is Juan’s girlfriend and is nice to him

Soundtrack To our lives Prominent songs in this film include Hello Stranger by Barbara Lewis Cell Therapy by the Goodie Mob and unexpectedly Vesperae Solennes de Confessore by Mozart
