UM Health & Medicine: Advancing a contemporary workforce with an emphasis on rural and primary care • 2020: Exploring Collaborative Partnerships 3
Our mission is to advance the academic healthcare opportunities at UM and to enhance the quality of healthcare provided to Montanans. UMHM connects the academic programs and clinical expertise across the University of Montana with the medical community of Western Montana and the greater region. 4
• Established the Community of Learners project to reach prospective and current students; • In Missoula, artnered with Spectr. UM and the Broader Impacts Group to expand STEM to include a Health Lab for community outreach and health education; • Provided sponsorship to CE opportunities; • Supported a health care global health/IPE team on multiple ventures (Africa, SE Asia); • Assisted in the development of the Health Care Coordinating Council at OCHE, to foster a coordinated approach to health care education across the Montana University System; 5
• Engineering new academic health education initiatives: Driving the development of the program in occupational therapy, exploring new opportunities, such as Physician Assistant; • Providing support and the academic infrastructure to develop rural health certificate opportunities and the new MUS Institute for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice in Health & Medicine; • Working with MHA leadership to explore collaborative opportunities; • Establishing the UM Health & Medicine Education, Research & Innovation Network to create partnerships at the local levels throughout Montana. 6
Founded in 2019, the University of Montana (UM) Health and Medicine Teaching, Research and Innovation Network is a regionally-based and focused health sciences collaborative. The network serves as the platform where the medical community of Montana and UM experts in education, research, and innovation collaborate for improved health outcomes and workforce solutions. Together, UM and its partners are working to meet the challenges—and opportunities—of health care head-on for a healthier Montana.
UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA HEALTH AND MEDICINE 8 At the core of the UM Health and Medicine Teaching, Research and Innovation Network is the University of Montana Health and Medicine (UMHM). With a mission to advance the academic health- care opportunities at UM and enhance the quality of healthcare provided to Montanans, UMHM is the home of health programs at all degree levels. Program offerings include two-year technical degrees, four- year bachelor programs in a variety of applied and research-based fields, and postgraduate professional and research-based degrees at both the masters and doctoral levels.
