INTRODUCTION n On December 27, 2008 the Jewish state of Israel launched an attack in the Gaza strip that killed more than 200 people in the first day of bombings. The recent fighting between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group in control of the Gaza Strip, is the latest chapter in six decades of conflict. It is a conflict rooted in history. In fact, much of the conflict surrounds the three monotheistic religions that we have been discussing in class.
TASK n n n Your task is to research the main characteristics of the 3 monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, & Islam). Using your research your group will work together to create a chart or poster of the details that you found. Individually, you will write an essay where you compare and contrast the 3 religions.
PROCESS § You will be assigned groups of three. You may split the research up anyway that you would like. (one person for each religion/ one person for certain characteristics) § Use the websites provided or other websites as long as they are approved by the teacher. Remember that we are looking for scholarly websites. § Work as a group to create a well-detailed poster or chart that detailed the major characteristics of the three monotheistic religions. (Characteristics must include the following: origin, founder, start date, major beliefs, affect on society) § Individually, write an essay in which you compare and contrast the three monotheistic religions.
