Math Teaching Point: I can use place value strategies to subtract within 100. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can decompose to subtract. • Mini-lesson: Today we will complete the addition strategies assessment. Afterwards, we will talk about how we can decompose tens and ones to subtract with no regrouping. • Task: Use the decompose strategy as you play spin-it, decompose-it, subtract-it on your own.
Reading • Good readers identify points made by an author in texts and find supporting reasons that the author gives as well. • Mini-Lesson: We will continue to learn about how to identify the author’s points and reasons in texts. Let’s see if we can match some examples together. • Task: Let’s read the passage, “Winter Sports”. Can you identify the author’s main point? Writing Teaching Point: I can write to inform. • Good writers write to inform. • Informational writing involves writing real facts and becoming experts on a topic. • Mini-Lesson: Students have worked with a teacher to read a nonfiction book on their topic and write facts to become an expert. Today we will organize our thoughts to complete the graphic organizer. • Task: Write a bold beginning and excellent ending for your paragraph.
Grammar Teaching Point: I can use an apostrophe correctly in a contraction. • Mentor sentence from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: You’ll have to fix up a little box for him with a blanket and a pillow. • Mini-Lesson: We will look at some common spelling patterns for contractions. We will also work together to complete a practice handout.

Science Teaching Point: I can describe attributes of stars. • Mini-Lesson: This week we will continue learning about attributes of stars. We will finish reading the passage, “Twinkle Little Star” together. Then, we will focus on the star that is closest to us, the sun! Let’s watch Brain Pop Jr. to learn more about our sun.
