PSG IWG Introduction MOLIT Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport KATRI Korea Automobile testing & research Institute l Background of PSG IWG Organization Ø WP. 29(3. 2014) : Report the result of panoramic sunroof defect investigation in Korea. ▪ Confirm vulnerability of mechanical strength on the ceramic printed area of toughened glass on panoramic sunroof Ø GRSG(106 th , 107 th ) : Propose to develop the amendment to GTR No. 6 and UN Reg No. 43 about methods(227 g ball drop test) of toughened glass. ▪ For reflecting the mechanical strength characteristic of opaque obscuration(Ceramic printed area) Ø WP. 29(11. 2014) : AC 3 endorsed the proposal of authorization and the establishment of IWG.

Progress on the development of new gtrs and of amendments to established gtrs(agenda item 17) D. Gtr No. 6 (Safety glazing) (agenda item 17. 4) Documentation: ECE/TRANS/WP. 29/2015/42 115. The representative of the Republic of Korea reported that new IWG on Panoramic Sunroof Glazing (PSG) expected to convene on 4 May 2015 in conjunction with the forthcoming GRSG session. He announced the Group’s intention to finalize the teams of Reference and Rules of Procedures. He confirmed that the Republic of Korea would chair the informal working group and act as a technical sponsor. He invited all interested delegates to participate in the informal meeting. AC. 3 endorsed the request for authorization to develop an amendment to UN GTR No. 6(ECE/TRANS/WP. 29/2015/42).

Objective 2. 1 MOLIT Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport KATRI Korea Automobile testing & research Institute WP. 29 -164 -24 The main objective of this proposal is to develop, in the framework of the 1998 Agreement, an amendment to UN Global Technical Regulation (GTR) No. 6 on Safety Glazing concerning clarification of the methods (e. g. 227 g ball drop test), etc. for testing and evaluating the mechanical strength of toughened glass so that the safety of a panoramic sunroof is assured.

Scope of Work 5. Scope and work items 5. 1 5. 2 (a) (b) (c) MOLIT Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport KATRI Korea Automobile testing & research Institute WP. 29 -164 -24 With regards to the definition of toughened glass, the IWG will review if the current definition of toughened glass is appropriate to assure the safety of panoramic sunroof and then will clearly define the mechanical properties of toughened glass, if necessary. For example, toughened glass is expected to be stronger than before what it was, i. e. before it underwent the toughening process. With regards to the 227 g ball drop test, the IWG will discuss the following: Only using a 30 cm x 30 cm test piece for the 227 g ball drop test. Using a test piece that reflects the representative characteristics of a finished product, on condition that a certain area of opaque obscuration, which is necessarily for fixing the toughened glass to a vehicle, is excluded from the impact point of the toughened glass at a test. Clarifying and harmonizing the UN Regulation and ISO with regards to the test.
