Molecules: Lesson 8 DNA & RNA Basics

Understandings and applications • The nucleic acids DNA and RNA are polymers of nucleotides.
 • DNA differs from RNA in the number of strands present, the base composition and the type of pentose. • Drawing simple diagrams of the structure of single nucleotides of DNA and RNA, using circles, pentagons and rectangles to represent phosphates, pentoses and bases. 2

Molecules: DNA & RNA Basics Objectives • Describe the differences between DNA and RNA • Draw a simple diagram of DNA and RNA Warm Up • List all 6 proteins we learned and state their functions in 5 words or less. 3
