I-65 Williamson County MAJOR Crossover MVA involving CMV and SUV 5: 30 PM Rural Interstate with overwhelmed alternate rural routes. • • • Fatality. CMV on fire. Immediate secondary crash w/2 Critical injuries. Life. Flight on scene. 8 Agencies involved. All SB and all NB lanes blocked initially for one hour. Contra Flow Lanes established allowing one lane NB and SB on the NB side for 3 hours through Cooperative effort by ALL agencies. Investigation and recovery done concurrently. Detection time to completion 35 hours.

Davidson County I-440 EB INTERMEDIATE 1 PM Urban Interstate Construction Zone (NO Shoulders) Limited access MVA w/INJURIES unstable vehicle/multiple patients/minor injuries • Limited access for responders requiring ALL lanes blocked for patient care, stabilization. • 3 lanes blocked initially during patient assessment/transport. • Excellent communication and inter agency cooperation expedited efforts tremendously. • Aggressive action taken to relocate vehicles once responders/patients were clear and safe to do so. • 3 Vehicles relocated, and 2 loaded in lane 3 concurrently. • Affected EB and WB travel lanes due to FD parking/rubbernecking. • 1 lane OPEN in 20 minutes. • 2 lane OPEN in 30 minutes. • Time of detection to completion 70 4 minutes.

Davidson County I-24 EB INTERMEDIATE to MINOR Urban Interstate Construction Zone (NO shoulders) Limited access MVA single vehicle ROLLOVER w/ 2 minor injuries. • Limited access for all responders with 2 of 2 lanes blocked. • Excellent communication and coordination by all agencies expedited clearance. • Understanding of needs/capabilities. 5 • Quick Detection/verification by TMC. • Quick recovery and relocation of vehicle concurrent with patient care/investigation. • 1 lane Open in 10 minutes. • ALL (2) lanes open in 30 minutes. • Time of detection to completion 45 minutes.

Traffic Incident Management Training Facility The First in the United States On October 30, 2014, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DOHS) and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) celebrated the opening of the Tennessee Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Training Facility. 6

Where we want to go. • Continue to improve SAFELY. • Keep all responders SAFE utilizing best practices. • Keep the motoring public SAFE by reducing secondary crashes, improving the travel environment. • Embrace and utilize emerging technologies to improve safety and development. • Train even more responders in TIMS. • Maintain and build upon the great partnerships developed with all partners. • New Traffic Control Devices/Equipment. • Identify potential safety improvement areas. 7
