RECAP • Existence is in the form of co-existence. It is ever present • Existence = Co-Existence • Every unit in existence is related with every other unit in existence in a mutually fulfilling manner. • Synergy is intrinsic to existence, harmony is inherent in existence – we do not have to create it, we do not have to construct it • The role of Human Being is to realize this co-existence, this harmony, this order in existence – For this, all that human beings need to do is: • To understand the inherent harmony, the co-existence in existence • To live accordingly – to live with the feeling of harmony or coexistence (and there is every provision in existence for living in co-existence) • Existence Nature Society Family the Human Being Slide 2 of 18 2

Values in Different Dimensions of Human Living • Values are to be understood as participation in mutual relationship. We studied about Values (Feelings) in Module_2 'Harmony in Family'. • Likewise, working with material things, we have two Values: • Utility-Value: The participation of a human being in ensuring the role of physical facility in nurture, protection and providing means for the body. • Artistic-Value: The participation of a human being in ensuring the role of physical facility to help and preserve its utility (Right Utilization). Examples of Utility Value & Artistic Value: • For example, the Utility Value of pen is that it aids in writing. This provides a means to the body. • Providing a cap to the pen so that the ink does not spill, a proper design for holding of the pen while writing etc. preserve the utility of the pen. • A shirt has the utility that it protects the body. This is the 'Utility Value'. • Designing the shirt so that it can be easily put on is the 'Artistic Value'. Thus we provide buttons in the front, the size of the shirt is as per size of the body and so on. • The Utility of the Food is that it helps nurture the body. But cooking the food in such way that it can be easily chewed and swallowed, served in dish etc. is the artistic Value. • One important point is here that Artistic Value is there only when Utility Value is there. When there is no utility, it has no scope for Art too. Slide 11 of 18 11

Natural Acceptance of Human Values from Right Understanding • The Universal Human Values are the truths of existence and are always there. • It is for us to discover these through self-exploration and learn to live in accordance with these in order to be Happy. • The Values are not be enforced through fear (bhaya). • The Values are not be enforced through greed (pralobhana) • The Values are not be enforced through blind faith/belief (astha). • The Human Values are to be naturally acceptable, as a result of the Right Understanding gained through Self-exploration. Swatva – Swatantrata – Swarajya • Swatva is the Natural Acceptance which is innate, invariant and universal. • Each one us becomes authentic about the rightness of thought, behavior and work by being in dialogue with this Swatva. • This process of dialogue leads to Realization of Harmony at all levels of living. Realization of Harmony in oneself and living accordingly (which follows naturally) is Swatantrata. • Working for ensuring Harmony in the larger order (i. e. the Society) is Swarajya. Implications of Value-based Living • At the level of Individual: Happiness, peace, contentment and bliss in the Self, perseverance, bravery and generosity in living of the individual. • At the level of the Family: Mutual fulfillment in relationships, prosperity in the family, sustenance of joint families, family as the building block of societal order in place of law enforcing bodies, respect for all without differentiation on the basis of age, gender, caste, race, money, post, creed etc. , Slide 16 of 18 16

Implications of Value-based Living • At the level of the Soceity: Fearlessness in the Society, holistic systems for Education, Health, justice, production, exchange and storage, Harmony between nations, world growing as family. • At the level of Nature: Co-Existence of all units in Nature, earth getting more and more suited for sustenance of all entities on the globe, balance of seasons, proper development of material and pranic units through right availability of temperature, air, water, soil and other natural resources, that is to say, a Universal Human Order.
