Module Aims The aim of this module is to introduce the implementation strategy for augmented reality concept as a business tool. Introduction As the implementation of AR as a part of your business and as a tool for making your business more competitive, to survive and to be sustainable is a demanding change process you will need to have a clear strategy and vision to be successful. Implementation of AR (VR and MR) is not something you can do when you have the time – it has an impact on your financial and human resources as well as your customers and market. http: //www. mecb. com. mt/aroma/
But, why do I need a strategy? Here are three key reasons to why you need it: • Guiding and controlling the process of implementation, without a clear strategy and plan you will not be able to make the optimal decisions for your business and measure the results, • Engaging your resources, all the individuals engaged in the implementation needs to see the same picture as you and to understand what is expected, • Launching a realistic plan, time schedule, budget. milestones, risk mitigation, reaching the goals and objectives. Implementation of AR as a business tool AR is not only a new way of digitilaization of a routine task – it will also engage your customers and hopefully meet their changed behaviuor. Setting up a strategy for the implementation will help you to secure the process and to be able to monitor and evaluate, not only when finnished, but during the entire process. http: //www. mecb. com. mt/aroma/
What do I need to consider in the Strategy? 1. Target Groups: demanding it? which are ready for AR and who is 2. What product and/or service: is the best/optimal to start with? 3. Part of your Business: even in a small business you have a lot of “departments”. Should you start in marketing, sales, support, maintenance, training of customers…. ? 4. Resources and competences: do you have the skills and resources already or do you need to get them? http: //www. mecb. com. mt/aroma/
What do I need to consider in the Strategy? 5. Time frame: when can you start, how much effort can you put into the process, when do you need to finalize it? 6. Benefits/advantages/results/profits: what do you expect to get from the implementation? 7. Plan B: is this a “point of no return” activity, a complementary or can we just skip it if we fail? 8. The importance of an implementation plan: The Implementation Strategy is not isolated from your business strategy and business model The work and the process of creating a clear strategy will help you reach a better understanding of the challenges and the opportunities with AR as a business tool You will be able to communicate to all stakeholders; owners, colleagues, staff, customers, banks, auditors etc. – what AR in your business will mean to them You will highlight the implementation of AR as a changed development of your business and not just another IT-project. http: //www. mecb. com. mt/aroma/

A clear strategy requires some decisions To be able to bring the decisions to the strategy – there is a number of areas to check and make a research and knowledge update on. One way of finding the optimal parts could be to ask your self (and your staff): • Can AR help our customers to buy our products/services? • Can AR help our customers to use our products/services? • Can AR help our staff to provide a better service? • Can we reduce costs by using AR? • Can we increase our profit by using AR? Strategic decisions are supposed to be of a long term – not changed every now and then. One of the key skills for an entrepreneur is to be patient and persistent. This is something to keep in mind then creating your implementation strategy. What resistance will you meet? What problems will you face? What are the risks we need to handle? Plan your work and work your plan One very crucial part of the implementation of AR is to find a person that understands both the business and the AR technologies possibilities. Not necessarily to be the implementation manager (project manager) but to be responsible for the quality and that we reach the goals of the core business.
