In Business What is a Stakeholder? • Any person, organization, social group, or society at large that has a stake in the business. Stakeholders can be internal or external to the business. • A stake is a vital interest in the business or its activities. It can include ownership and property interests, legal interests and obligations, and moral rights. • Stakeholders can: • Affect a business • Be affected by a business • Be both affected by a business and affect a business Stakeholders are members of “groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist"
The PSE Ecosystem Who are the PSE stakeholders?
The PSE Stakeholders Let’s simplify a bit… Outside of the National Organization, there are four main stakeholder groups: • Students • Alumni • Faculty • Partners The Fraternity is also affiliated with three separate, yet related organizations, who each may have a stake in the Fraternity: • Mu Kappa Tau (MKT) • National Conference in Sales Management (NCSM) • Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management (JPSSM)
PSE Chapters • Operates as independent small business • Executive Board positions • Members participate in sales, research, marketing, and service projects
advisors There are three types of advisors: • Faculty (educator) • Alumni (former collegiate member) • Professional (corporate partner or professional member)
Corporate Partners • Support students financially through national programming and scholarships • Provide insight and updates on the latest trends in the industries and professional development on the local level
National Organization • National Council • The governing or policy making body of the organization • National Headquarters • Implements the policies set forth by the National Council • Develops programs • Oversees administration of the Fraternity
Working with Stakeholders What does that mean? • Get to know your stakeholders! • Learn what each group values most • Spend time with them • Ask questions • Build relationships • Create value for each group
DISCUSSION Consider the PSE stakeholder groups (students, alumni, faculty, partners). • What do you think matters most to each of them? • What is their biggest challenge? • Biggest need or opportunity? • How can you as an individual member create value for each of these perspectives? • How can you best build individual relationships with members of each group? Assignment Discuss with your team. Then, write out the answers in your workbook.
