Modular Syngas Generation • Technology Description/Status/Application RTI International is developing a Modular Partial Oxidation System for the generation of syngas from small-scale gas sources. The technology overcomes the economical challenges of small-scale by utilizing the mass-produced internal combustion engine as the partial oxidation reactor. RTI has demonstrated this application at the 50, 000 scfd feed scale for over 200 h with two iteration of the design to achieve robust and reliable operation including production of methanol with the produced syngas. This technology can enable the conversion of gas sources such as flared gas, waste gas streams, landfill biogas, biogas from anaerobic digestion, or others to high value products. Such sources can range from 50, 000 scfd of gas with one engine cores to systems for treating in excess of 600, 000 with multiple engine cores. Value added products such as hydrocarbons from FT synthesis, methanol, olefins, DME, hydrogen and hydrogen are a few examples of the potential products. This technology will enable an economic distribution of small-scale conversion of natural gas across many platforms. • Proposed Pilot with Funding needs We are presently seeking co-development and partnership opportunities for RTI’s Modular Partial Oxidation System, the solution to smallscale modular gas conversion. The next step of development would be to develop a commercial prototype of the modular system for field testing with an appropriate product synthesis. The next step would build upon RTI’s current pilot skid design to include heat integration, remote/unattended operations controls, and environmental conditioning. The objective would be to test in an actual environment for in excess of 1, 000 h. This would position the technology for commercial deployment. • Contact information Dr. John Carpenter, RTI International, (919) 541 -6784, jcarpenter@rti. org
