About MODTRAN MODerate resolution TRANsmission Widely used as a standard atmospheric model in: • Defense industry (Air Force Research Laboratory • • standard) Atmosphere research Climatic research Spectral range valid for (λ > 0. 2µm) Atmosphere model: • Stack of 33 concentric layers with homogeneous properties MODTRAN solves the radiative transfer, taking into account: • Solar and lunar illumination, • Single and multiple scattering • Specular and diffuse reflections • Ground atmospheric thermal contribution Overview of MODTRAN source emission contributions (*): A. Interoperability with SPEOS • MODTRAN is used by SPEOS to build physical data-based ambient sources. • Ambient source model is extended to infrared wavelengths and takes into account thermal contribution from sky and ground. • Combining a radiance sensor to an ambient source with MODTRAN: • Atmosphere spectral attenuation can be simulated, • Sensor can be positioned up to 300, 000 km far away from the scene no CAD limitation! Line-of-sight allowed in SPEOS: 1. A flying object observing a terrestrial scene, 2. A satellite scanning ground scene. September 23, 2021 6
