A Modifier…. • A modifier is a word or word group that makes the meaning of another word or word group more specific. • There are 2 kinds: Adjectives and Adverbs
Adjectives • Adjectives make the meaning of a noun or pronoun more specific -Perfect score -Last one - clear water - falling snow
Adverbs • Adverbs make the meaning of a verb, adjective, or another adverb more specific -walks briskly -ran quickly - completely innocent Adverbs tell where, when, how, or to what extent ( how much, how often, how long)
But which is it? • Here is the trick– MOST adverbs end in –ly.
That is not ALWAYS true… • Some modifiers ending in –ly are used as adjectives. • Monthly budget • Early indication • Likely outcome
