At the end of their lesson, groups will also be asked to assess the learning of students to determine the effectiveness of their teaching.
Modern Georgia Teaching Lesson Instructions (Part 1): 1. 2. Grouping – Sit with the other members of your group. Students will continue to work with the same groups as during the Modern Georgia Scrapbook Activity. Choose Jobs – On the Group Activity Contract, each group member will need to sign up for, or be assigned, a minimum of one job. Each group will need to have someone to be the Group Leader, who will lead the group, meet with the teachers during conferences at the end of each class, and will also work to create the Lesson Objectives/Essential Questions. The other group members will work to plan and create a Warm Up activity, a Presentation component, a Work Session activity, and a Closing/Assessment activity all relating to your group’s assigned decade. Each group will then be asked to teach their lesson to the class (60 minute lesson!) with each member responsible for teaching and/or leading their assigned part!
Modern Georgia Teaching Lesson Instructions (Part 1 – Cont. ): 3. Brainstorming/Planning – After selecting jobs, groups should begin brainstorming ideas for the different sections of the project and begin planning each of the assigned activities. During this brainstorming/planning time, groups should decide the Historical Themes for the assigned decade that will be emphasized during the lesson (for example, if your decade was the 1940’s you would probably decide to emphasize the end of WWII). This will help to determine the Lesson Objectives/Essential Questions, what questions to ask during a Warm Up, what information will be presented during the Presentation, what information will be practiced/worked with during the Activity, and assessed during the Lesson Closing/Assessment.
Modern Georgia Teaching Lesson Instructions (Part 1 – Cont. ): 4. 5. Teaching Lesson Proposal – After Brainstorming/Planning, the group should begin filling in the Teaching Lesson Proposal sheet. Each group is expected to fill in the entire Teaching Lesson Proposal sheet, complete with the assigned Decade and Historical Themes, and a description of each of the required lesson components. After completing the Teaching Lesson Proposal, groups will need to conference with the teachers and have the lesson approved before continuing with the project. Begin Creating the Teaching Lesson – Once groups have completed the Teaching Lesson Proposal, and have had the proposal approved by the teachers, you will be asked to begin creating the teaching lesson.
Modern Georgia Teaching Lesson Instructions (Part 2): 1. Continue Creating the Teaching Lesson – Once groups have completed the Teaching Lesson Proposal, and have had the proposal approved by the teachers, you will be asked to continue creating the teaching lesson. Each group member is responsible for completing their assigned part AND is asked to help other group members with their parts. • Group Leader – Write and create a way to post the Lesson Objectives/Essential Questions (poster, Power. Point, etc. ). • Warm Up – Create a Warm Up Activity for the class. • Presentation – Create a visual aid to assist in the presentation of information about your decade. • Activity – Create an Activity for the class to complete about your decade. • Closing/Assessment – Create an assessment for the class to complete about your decade to judge your effectiveness as teachers.
