Position Paper • First Part: State the issue and the writer's position – Position of the nation that the writer represents – This statement should be no more than a few sentences 3
Position Paper • Second Part: briefly address the issues on the Agenda – Mention: • • What historically created the issue Major players Current developments Past actions UN or nation has taken – Agencies? Regional bodies? NGO’s? – Most significant resolutions that have been passed – International treaties and provisions for future action 4
Position Paper • Third Part: brief statements about where your country stands on the issue in question – Official position of the country you represent – Specific suggestions that your country will support in providing a solution for the issues in question – Why it is in the best interest of the UN as a whole? 5
Position Paper Format: • Limited to ONE page, single spaced, and must cover ONE issue only • Top and bottom margins must be 1”; side margins must be ½”. • Type size must be 12 point; type font must be Times New Roman. • No cover page • No flags, colored headers, decorative borders, etc. 6
