Berg Balance Scores +8 points over 6 -weeks Improved balance and weight bearing Reduced Risk of Falls A Berg Balance score between 21 -40 = medium fall risk. An improvement of 8+ points demonstrates a genuine change in balance and weight bearing function. Sit to Stands 25% in number of stands over 6 -weeks Leg strength Mobility The number of stands achieved in 30 seconds increased by 1 stand, indicating improvements in leg strength and endurance. Sit and Reach 13% increase in distance reached over 6 -weeks Flexibility Mobility +1. 8 cm in distance reached was achieved, indicating improved flexibility. A negative score = reaching towards the toes and 0 = able to reach the toes. Grip Strength Continuous improvement in strength over 6 -weeks Muscle Strength Reduced risk of all-cause mortality, falls and disability Increases in grip strength indicate improvements in overall muscle strength, particularly ability to lift the body out of a chair or manoeuvre in and out of a car.

Intergenerational fishing at Westbank Care Home, Aberdeenshire Resident Iain enjoyed reminiscing and chatting with Alyssa while they fished together.
Regular lunch dates for Norma from Catmoor Care Home in Perth. Staff helped Norma build up her strength and practise stairs so she could go home for Sunday lunch. She now does this every fortnight.
New lease of life for Colin from Abbeyfield Assisted Living in Inverclyde Colin was practically housebound before he moved here. Now he gets out and about every day and says it’s given him a ‘new lease of life. ’
Norman from HRM Homecare, East Renfrewshire Norman uses a wheelchair and wanted to move more. He can now stand when playing dominos and cards. He also stands at the kitchen worktop to have his lunch.
Cooking up a storm at Mowat Court in Aberdeenshire A kitchen and dining refurbishment has paid off helping people to get more involved in cooking and baking and to move more every day.
Frances, Mallaig Road Day Centre, Glasgow Frances’ grip strength and finger movement exercises have enabled her to take up her favourite tapestry hobby once more.
Massive improvement for Margaret from Trust Housing in East Renfrewshire. Margaret can get in and out of her chair more easily and is moving more. And she’s only been doing the exercises for six weeks.
Resident Ryan from Dalweem Care Home in Aberfeldy is benefitting from CAPA. Ryan felt isolated and lacked confidence to leave the house. Now he’s able to walk by himself to the newsagent to pick up his paper.
Muirhead Road Day Centre in Glasgow Getting out in the garden for a wee walk after tea and toast has increased mobility and encouraged people to bond and to be more sociable.
Sue Ryder, Perth Simple leg and other flexibility exercises have enabled Catherine to improve her upper body strength in just six weeks. And she loves the exercises.
Rowan Gardens, Greenock Supporting Sammy to get out in the garden and to walk to the shops has enabled him to move more, making him happier and more confident.
Cordia Care Small changes in practice to support people to move more has had a positive impact on those experiencing care at home.
