Models in Science • A model is an idea of something that cant be fully known or seen. • Making models of things in Science can be thought of as the "Art" of constructing models which approximate the Real World. • It is a way to show an object or idea that is hard to picture/visualize it in real form
What is inside the Earth? Geologists are scientists that study the earth Geologists have used a model to help them understand what the earth is made from By digging up the earths surface, we can easily study the top layer, but we cannot dig to the center of the earth. Too far, too hot!

Outer Core • Temperature is so high that this layer is molten (liquid) metal that is about 4, 700°C • Composed of the melted metals nickel and iron
Inner Core • Solid sphere composed mostly of iron • It is solid because of the pressure from the outer core, mantle, and crust compressing it tremendously • It is believed to be as hot as 6, 650°C
