Reading & Writing Lesson Plan v v v Teacher: Group Glamour Girls Class: ENG 101 / Development Of Reading and Writing Date of Explanation: 2008 -04 -09 Proficiency Level: Upper-intermediate Age of Learners: Adolescents

Objectives: o o Students will be able to guess what the text is about from the title. Students will be able to scan the text to check their predictions. Students will be able to guess the meaning of the unknown vocabulary from the context. Students will be able to answer comprehension questions.

Materials Required: o o An authentic reading text called “AZERI HILLS HOLD SECRET OF LONG LIFE”. An activity sheet prepared about the text for after reading.

Warm up/Review: (2 class hours) o Pre-reading activities: 1. Discussion starters 2. Pre-teach some vocabulary related to health

Presentation / practice / evaluation: ( 2 class hours) o o o Students will read and listen to the text and write a main idea for each paragraph. Students will answer the exercises about the text on activity sheet. Students will lead a post-reading discussion

Listening: o Now listen to the reading text

Follow-up activities: o o o Students will lead a web search and gather information about a person who lived a long life. Then students will write a text on the following topic and send it to me via email. Topic of writing: ın general people are living longer than they used to. Discuss the causes of this phenomenon. Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.

Contingency plan: What if my students can’t find the main idea as I expected? Solution: Firstly I will give them clues to help them find the main points. If they can’t find it again I will supply them with the already prepared main ideas and ask my students to match them with the paragraphs. o What if my students won’t be willing to take part in the warm-up or post reading discussions? Solution: I will ask them easier and more detailed questions. o
