MLA 8 TH EDITION PRINCIPLES ▪ The “container” idea: ▪ MLA recognizes that information has to be housed inside some kind of container—words can’t just float around in space. ▪ Quite simply, the container is usually: a book, a journal, a web site, a newspaper, etc. ▪ BUT this container is usually housed within another container: often a database

CORE ELEMENTS ▪ Now instead of each type of source getting one and only one correct way of citing, we need to go by the idea of “core elements” ▪ In other words, the key pieces of imformation that will help the reader be able to track down the source you used.
