Missoula County Public Schools proposal for Montana Memory Project 2014 Presented to MCPS Teaching and Learning Committee January 6, 2014
For Consideration: • Missoula County Public Schools digital contribution of Missoula County High School “ The Bitterroot” yearbooks 1916 thru 1949 with additional volumes to be added later. • Authorization to submit LSTA (Library Services and Technology Grant Funds) Application for the maximum available amount of $1500. LSTA grants are administered by the Montana State Library and digital content is hosted by OCLC, a worldwide library cooperative, owned, governed and sustained by members since 1967.
About the Montana Memory Project Purpose To provide free and open access to Montana related digital materials. These materials provide opportunities for education, genealogy research, business, pleasure, and lifelong learning. The Montana Memory Project encourages cultural institutions to digitize and share historic and contemporary resources. Scope The digital collection of the Montana Memory Project may include maps, photos, rare books, documents, publications, diaries, oral histories, audio recordings, video recordings, paintings, illustrations, art and other cultural materials. The items can be historic or contemporary as long as they relate to Montana's cultural heritage.

The Montana Memory Project is a statewide project whose purpose is to provide access to digital collections of items relating to Montana’s cultural heritage and government. All Montana libraries, museums, archives and schools are potentially able to participate in the Montana Memory Project. MMP LSTA Grant Application The LSTA grant awards can be used for one or more of the following: • preparing the collection for digitization • scanning collection materials • creating collection metadata • uploading the collection into the MMP The library will arrange to have digitization done using a central vendor working with MSL. The LSTA grant awards cannot be used for: • purchasing equipment
MMP LSTA GRANT REQUIREMENTS Requirements for the grant • Libraries must submit a MMP Collection Application and receive approval from the MMP selection committee before January 15, 2014. • The project must be completed as described in the Collection Application timeline. • All grant funds must be expended by September 15, 2014. • At the end of the project, the library will submit a short narrative report detailing the time and funding required for completing the project as well as any challenges or lessons learned. This report is due no later than October 30, 2014.
