The Failure • It was determined that the derailment was caused by a journal

The Failure • It was determined that the derailment was caused by a journal bearing failure, or “Hot Box” on a toluene car. • First responders had to withdraw to 1, 500 ft. • A brave photographer determined the Cl 2 car was within 40 ft. of propane car. • The Cl 2 car had a major hole 2. 5’ x 3’.

What happened to Cl 2? • 160, 000 lbs of Cl 2 was lost.
