Miss Cook’s Class Iowa Park High School Year 2020 – 2021 School English IV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Class Expectations 1. Be on time. 2. Be prepared. Have all materials with you and be prepared to work. 3. Be on task. Listen during instruction and participate during class discussions and activities. Use technology appropriately, and only with permission. 4. Be respectful. Treat yourself, your peers, your teacher, and our shared space with respect. 5. All IPHS rules and policies will be observed in the classroom. Course Description Welcome to Business English! Our focus this school year will be on developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills are not only important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, they are a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. In many ways, the quality of life you experience now thorough adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and communicate with others. Where do I go to find assignments or information? Basic class information will be on my teacher web page. We will be using Schoology regularly to turn in papers, log class discussions, and post announcements. Class Procedures 1. Use the restroom during passing breaks. 2. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. 3. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. 4. Water in a clear container is the only drink allowed in class. 5. No food. 6. Cell phones should be silenced or turned off and put away during class time. Due date information will also be posted in class. Chromebook Policy We will regularly use Chromebooks in class. Students are expected to use them for educational purposes only, and only when instructed. Failure to comply will result in the same consequences as breaking a class rule and may result in the loss of device usage. Additionally, Chromebooks should be charged before class because outlets in class are limited. Consequences Failure to comply with class expectations can result in negative consequences, including but not limited to – 1. Verbal Warning 2. Parent Contact and Mandatory Detention 3. Referral to Administration and Parent Contact jcook@ipcisd. net How will I check my grade in class? Class progress reports will be sent electronically via e-mail or in paper form every three weeks. Parents and students are also strongly encouraged to check the Parent Portal on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. 940 -592 -2144 1

Miss Cook’s Class Grade Breakdown v 60% - Assessments ~Tests, essays, projects, presentations, etc. ~You will receive at least 2 assessment grades each grading period. v 40% - Daily Assignments ~Daily work, participation, quizzes, homework, etc. Supplies • Notebook Paper • Multiple pencils and pens (blue or black ink only) • One Chromebook Iowa Park High School 2019 – 2020 School Year What happens if I turn in an assignment late? • Work not completed and turned in by the assigned due date will be considered late. • Completed late work will receive only partial credit. 10 points will be deducted for every day the assignment is past due. • Incomplete late work will not be graded and will result in a zero for the assignment. What do I do if I am absent? Students are responsible for following up with the teacher about any work they missed during an absence. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns otherwise it is considered late. Students will have one extra day to turn in any work assigned on a day they were absent. If a test was administered on a day a student was absent, the test must be made up on the first day the student returns. . What do I do if I need help? Tutorials will be offered: Ø Before school Tuesday – Friday from 7: 30 – 8: 00 am Ø After school Monday – Thursday from 3: 30 – 4: 00 pm Plagiarism Absolutely no plagiarism will be tolerated in any English class. Students will be taught to properly cite sources and should confer with the teacher about any uncertainty.
