Geographically and socially mobile workforce Growth of lone parent family, cohabitation, gay marriage are the cause of many social problems. Other family types can be considered deviant. Lone parent families are harmful to children.

COHABITATION (CC) VERSUS MARRIAGE (MC) Main cause: cohabiting families + breakdown= lone parent families. Such evidence support the new right views. Benson (2006) the rate of family breakdown was grater amongst cohabiting couples over the first three years of their babies life. 20% CC versus 6% MC Couples are more stable when they are married. Rate of breaks up is higher in CC. Traditional marriage can prevent social damage MC= commitment , CC= avoid commitment and responsibility. Laws and policies: easy access to welfare benefits, divorces etc.
